Salvaged Soul Blitz

Salvaged Soul by Desni Dantone
(Ignited Series #3)
Publication date: September 19th 2015
Genres: Mythology, Urban Fantasy, Young Adult

Synopsis:
Life in paradise isn’t exactly what Kris thought it would be. Treated like a prisoner and forced to keep her romance with Nathan hidden, she struggles to adapt to island life with the Kala. Worse, her specialties are coming in faster than she can control, and she fears the Skotadi within her will soon win the battle for her soul. Her only hope is to embrace her Incantation lineage, master the skills she’s supposed to have, and free herself of her destiny. If only she could figure out how to do it…
The ghosts of Nathan’s past still inhabit the island. Adapting to the Kala way of life again is something he will grudgingly accept, as long as they agree to help Kris. But falling back into the Kala system means being a Kala soldier, and when the gods ask for help, he cannot refuse. Sent around the world on a mission, he faces new dangers and stumbles upon a startling discovery that could change everything…
Together, they face their biggest hurdle yet and put their relationship to the ultimate test. When old temptations arise, new enemies emerge, and emotions run high, can their love survive?
From Amazon’s bestselling author, Desni Dantone, comes the third installment of The Ignited Series, where the danger is real, the stakes are higher, and nothing is as it seems. Continue the journey with Kris, Nathan, Alec, and Callie as they discover that when friends become enemies, enemies become friends, and the battles lines between good and evil blur, choosing the right side isn’t always easy.

EXCERPT:

Kris’s face scrunched up, and eventually broke into a smile. “Are you asking me out on a date right now? Because if you are, you’re seriously bad at it.”
“Give me a break. I haven’t done this in a long time.”
I finally pushed away from the dresser. As I angled closer to Kris, her teeth caught her bottom lip. It was a nervous habit, but oh, my God. Something in me came unhinged at the sight, and I had to remind myself to behave. But then her tongue flicked across her lips—a move so quick I wouldn’t have noticed if I weren’t staring at them—and I knew there wasn’t a chance in hell I would be able to keep my hands off of her now.
“I may be bad at the asking part,” I said, lifting my gaze from her mouth to her eyes. “But what I’m good at more than makes up for it.”
I reveled in the fact that sometimes I managed to make her nervous. Her eyes were everywhere but on my face by the time I reached her. Bending down until my nose nearly touched hers, I placed my hands on either side of her legs, essentially trapping her. Her eyes widened when she finally met my gaze, then just as quickly as the nervousness appeared, it was replaced by the bravado she always managed to muster up.
That was one of the many things I loved about her.
“Oh? And what exactly are you good at?” she breathed.
“This.” I yanked her legs out from under her, forcing her to fall back on the bed with a squeal. I followed and hovered over her long enough to register the gleam of excitement in her eyes before taking her mouth with mine.

AUTHOR BIO:
Desni Dantone is the author of The Ignited Series: Ignited (2013), Sacrificed (2014), and the upcoming Salvaged Soul and Avenging Heart.

She resides in Everett, PA with her husband, 3 sons, dog and cat, where she can usually be found writing on her laptop or engrossed in a book, usually of the paranormal romance variety. She loves to hear from her growing fan base on facebook or on her website at: www.facebook.com/ignitedbooks or www.desnidantone.com

Interview questions:

1. What is The Ignited Series about?
a. It’s a 4 part series with a mild Greek Mythology theme. Our heroine, Kris, discovers some truths from her past that lead her on an adventurous ride to find answers as she tries to avoid the unwanted future she discovers she was meant for. She is aided by several fun and likable characters, most notably, Nathan and Alec, the two men who each hold a piece of her heart. There’s a lot of mystery, action, and romance along Kris’s bumpy journey of self-discovery.

2. What made you want to start writing this series?
a. A few years ago, I got into reading young adult books, and loved the genre. Vampires, angels, demons, werewolves… they were everywhere! Up until then, I had only dabbled in romance, and I wanted to try writing something in young adult, because they were so fun to read. Back then, no one had done anything with Greek Mythology in it yet, and I kind of wanted to read a book about demigods…so I wrote one!

3. Tell us about the main characters in The Ignited Series.
a. Kris is the main character. She starts off as a seventeen year old girl that, despite her troubled past, thinks she is normal teenager. When a group of frightening ‘non-humans’ attempt to kill her, she learns that she is anything but normal. Though she hits some bumps along the way, she maintains her wit and shows some serious growth throughout the series. By the end, she is a much stronger person.

Nathan is a hero by all accounts. He’s a skilled fighter in their world, and very good at what he does. He has rescued Kris from danger her entire life, and is the one that protects her from this enemy that is after her now. He attempts to keep his distance from her…unsuccessfully, and eventually realizes the extent of his feelings for her.

Alec is the sharp-tongued bad boy with a heart. He has a past as well, which is linked to Kris in ways that neither of them could have imagined. Unlike Nathan, Alec isn’t afraid to wear his heart on his sleeve, and the level of his devotion to Kris has been known to pull at readers’ heart strings.

4. I’m not usually a fan of love triangles, but yours was written in a way that I enjoyed, and I have come to like both leading males. What made you decide to write a love triangle?

a. I love to read them! As the saying goes, “write what you love,” so I naturally penned a love triangle. Honestly though, it doesn’t end up being so much a love triangle as a deeply rooted love that the character has for both men. But one has a romantic base, while the other develops into a super strong friendship. From the beginning, Nathan is the “it guy,” but I wanted readers to form an attachment to Alec as Kris does…and they have! Maybe a little too much, because I certainly have my “Team Alec” members!

5. How much time do you spend researching the Greek Mythology used in your books?
a. In the first two books, the Greek Mythology element doesn’t contribute that much to the plot. It’s more of a background setting. Aside from learning more about the gods and goddesses, and what traits they were known for, I didn’t spend too much time on research. Books 3 and 4, however, dive much deeper into the inner workings of Greek Mythology. Though I’m far from an expert, I have learned a lot about it. The books straddle the line between keeping with some of the more widely known facts about Greek Mythology and my own imagination, creating an additional word on top of what the research suggests. If you’re looking for a factual Greek Mythology series, this isn’t it. There’s a lot of other made up stuff that I’ve created in the name of fiction.

6. Are you a full-time writer, or is writing something you do for fun on the side?
a. Writing, for me, started off as a hobby...which I have enjoyed for 20 years! After the release of Sacrificed last year, I was able to quit my “day job” and I am a full-time writer (and stay at home mom) now.

7. How do you balance having three small children with writing?
a. A lot of late nights, caffeine, and patience. Now, I mostly find time to write when my babies (10 month old twin boys) are napping, and after I put them to bed for the night. They’ve recently started sleeping through the night (for the most part), and my oldest has just started kindergarten, so I’m finding much more time to write now. I didn’t get anything done for a long time, hence the huge gap between the release of Sacrificed and Salvaged Soul.

8. Books 1 and 2 of The Ignited Series are written from Kris’s POV. I would love the opportunity to get into Nathan’s head. Do you have any plans to write any books, or scenes, from his POV?
a. Salvaged Soul (Book 3) is written in alternating POVs, between Kris and Nathan. So you will have the opportunity to see what makes that man tick. Though I only have rough ideas at this time, I would like to create some bonus material after the series is over, and go back to rewrite a few of the more popular Kris/Nathan scenes from his POV.

9. Do you ever imagine or fantasize about living the life of your characters?
a. All the time! The entire storyline for The Ignited Series started off as a fantasy in my head. That was where I imagined up the character’s relationships to each other. Early in the development of the books, scenes or ideas would suddenly come to me in the oddest of locations, like the shower, and I would quickly run to jot down whatever scene had played out in my head before I forgot it.

10. Your characters have some extraordinary powers. If you could choose one, which power would you like to have?
a. I think the ability to communicate with the dead would be awesome, only because in this world it’s not weird and creepy. It would be cool to see missed loved ones. Or receive pertinent information from the dead (hint!)

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

THE WRITING
How long does it take you to write a book?
It varies greatly. I’ve written seven books during National Novel Writing Month (where you try to write at least 50,000 words in November), so I can certainly write quickly when I decide to. And I’m a very fast typist, so it’s the ideas that slow me down, not the mechanics. But when I’m not working during NaNoWriMo, it can take me a year or more to write a book. Several times I’ve set a longer project aside to write a quick novel in November, only to pick it up again once the month was over.
Editing is what really takes up time. To properly revise a book, you have to get perspective on it, which means letting it sit around unread for a few months. Then, when you and your critique partners single out which parts don’t quite work, it takes a bit of time to figure out how to fix them. With The Natural Order, I actually wrote every scene on a notecard and then laid them out on a table so I could play around with rearranging them. Any scenes that didn’t seem to fit into the overall flow of the story were cut, and several were reorganized.
Do you have any interesting writing quirks?
My partner and I are both writers, so we love doing writing-challenge days. We draw up a chalkboard like this:
500 words—massage
1,000 words—hot drink
1,500 words—play cards
Each time one of us gets to 500 words, we get a treat. The ideas can get very creative, such as being forced to sit on the floor until we reach 500 words, or writing blindfolded for 15 minutes after we’ve reached a certain number! It makes the writing go much faster; some of the most productive writing days I’ve ever done have happened this way.
How many books have you written? Which is your favorite?
I’ve written 10 novels, and I’m in the middle of writing two more. My favorites are The Natural Order, Beauty’s Songbook (a Beauty and the Beast retelling), and The Fall of Lostport (which I’m halfway through at the moment). I love them each for different reasons. The Natural Order is a favorite because the characters are so vivid to me, and I know every one of their backstories and futures. Beauty’s Songbook I love because of the setting and the fairy-tale atmosphere. And The Fall of Lostport is my most ambitious novel yet, set in the fantasy world I’ve spent years creating.
When did you write your first book, and how old were you?
I started my first novel-length story in middle school, though all the way from third grade my teachers and classmates were jokingly calling the long stories I wrote in class “novels.” That first novel took three years and three notebooks to write, entirely by hand, and it ended up at 120,000 words. I have yet to write a longer novel.
What does your writing schedule look like? Consistent or sporadic?
I’m not terribly consistent, though I am good at keeping to the daily word-count goals during NaNoWriMo. When I’m working on a novel outside of November, I often have to go to a café to make space in my life for writing. Then I can put in a good couple hours, rack up two thousand words, and head home inspired to do more. I try to do that at least once a week, though it’s often hard to find time for it.
What environment do you write in?
When I’m writing at home, I have to be listening to music (either I’ll play my story’s theme song, or I’ll search “epic writing music” to find an appropriate mix), and I often have to disconnect the internet. I’m very bad with distractions. But when I’m at a café, I can completely tune out any distractions and write for hours. There’s something magical about writing at a café!
Do you work with an outline, or just write?
I’ve done both, with varying success. I’ve jumped into a few NaNoWriMo novels with no outline whatsoever, just a vague idea of where the plot needs to go (I started Millennium Rail, a futuristic dystopian story set in Japan, with nothing more than the image of the flooded railway tracks from Spirited Away…).
I’ve also outlined extensively. Beauty’s Songbook is a story told in five parts, with five characters narrating and five chapters (plus a prelude and postlude) in each part. I had every single chapter planned out before I started—which character was narrating, what would happen, and how the overall story arc was proceeding. Beauty’s Songbook is one of my favorites, but when I was writing it, I got bored about 2/3 of the way through because I knew exactly what was going to happen.
With most of my novels, I use a combination of the two. I jump in with no outline and a general idea of where the plot is going, and then partway through I run out of all the ideas I had from the outset, start panicking, do a frantic brainstorm session, and come up with the perfect outline for the rest of the plot. Then I make myself a bulleted list of events that will happen in the course of the book, which are highly subject to change as I write, though they keep me from having another moment of panic when I discover I have no more plot left to write.
Do your characters ever run away from you and change the plot without your permission, or do you have to force them to do everything?
Usually the former. I’ve had several stories where the book has changed significantly while I’ve been writing it simply because a character won’t obey the character profile I’ve written, or they start making decisions that don’t fit within the original plot. It can make for a mess, but that’s part of the fun of writing! It means the characters have become real for you.

THE WRITER
Is there any particular author or book that influenced you while growing up?
More than one! I was an incredibly voracious reader as a kid, and I devoured—and sought to emulate—every book I read. One time I was reading a book where the main character isn’t allowed to talk for years on end (Daughter of the Forest, a beautiful book by Juliette Marillier), and each time I put it down I had to remind myself that I was actually allowed to talk.
Ella Enchanted was certainly one of my all-time favorite books, as well as The Golden Compass. And I read Tamora Pierce’s Alanna more times than I can count. I love fairy tales, and I especially adore any novels that have managed to capture that same fairy-tale sense of magic and wonder.
What do you like to do when you’re not writing?
Lots of things! I have more than enough hobbies to keep me busy. I love reading, crocheting, knitting, traveling (that’s how I first ended up in New Zealand), hiking, baking, and photography.
Do you have a day job as well?
Yes—I work as a chef at Town Tonic Café, in Christchurch, New Zealand. I never went to culinary school, but I’ve been working as a cook for several years now, since even writers have to eat! I love the work, though, and it’s been very rewarding.
Chocolate or vanilla?
Chocolate, hands down. Everything is better with chocolate!

THE BOOK
Who is your favorite character in The Natural Order, and why?
Leila is definitely my favorite. She’s a bit like me (she likes cooking and telling stories), but she’s a lot more snarky and confrontational. She’s been hurt, and she thinks very poorly of herself, but she still gives everything she has to the people she cares for.
Who was your least favorite character? What made that individual unappealing?
Evvie. I originally started writing the book from her perspective, only to get bored within about three chapters. The worst part was that the beginning sounded exactly like the start of a story I’d written in middle school. It was embarrassing. Anyway, Tristan was supposed to be this dark, brooding character who fascinated and scared Evvie, but then I decided his perspective would be much more interesting. I switched then and there, and never regretted it. Evvie is interesting enough, but I still have a grudge against her.
What else did you edit out of The Natural Order?
I can’t even remember everything I’ve cut out! The book has gone through 9 drafts of revisions, and for the first five or so, things were drastically changing between each draft. First of all, after Evvie was cut from narrating, her initial scenes were gone. Then the story started right before the car crash where Tristan kills his brother, and eventually I cut that scene and the scenes of Tristan at Juvie, because they weren’t the right tone to lead into the story.
A few characters have been axed as well—originally the students were collected by someone named Professor Rowdy, who had a goatish face and a nervous tic. I can’t remember much more about him; clearly he wasn’t very important. And second, there was originally a mountaineer who stumbled across the Lair and fell in love with Evvie, but that later became *(spoiler alert!)* the twins Evvie cares for, since it heightened the tension between the teachers.
What was your favorite chapter or part to write, and why?
I have to admit, I’m a sucker for cozy scenes. I love getting into characters’ heads, so I adore spending time with them and seeing them interact in a comfortable, enjoyable scene. Part of it is because I often feel like I’m living the scenes as I write them, so I get great pleasure from living those moments. I loved writing the section set around Christmastime in The Natural Order, though I ended up cutting a lot of it to keep up the pace of the plot!
What can we expect from you in the future, with regard to this story and other current or future projects?
I’m working on the sequel, and plan to complete that during NaNoWriMo this year. I’m also halfway through a massive epic fantasy novel, The Fall of Lostport. Lostport is set in a world I’ve been developing for a long time now, so it’s wonderful to finally get a chance to spend time in it.
When is the next book in the series going to be released?
I’m aiming to release the second Natural Order book at the same time next year: June 2016!

AUTHOR BIO:
I'm a product of very creative parents and the most imaginative grandmother ever. I have an untapped passion for the supernatural and all things magical. My voracious appetite for reading fantasy started really young ~ and so did my love of words.

By the time I reached my teens, I'd accumulated notebooks full of poems, which I never shared. Poems led to short stories and short stories led to novels.

Now, I write young adult dark urban fantasy novels mixed with a spike of romance, a hint of history, a dash of mythology, and lots of paranormal.

In 2010, I began writing The Fire Born Novels which released September 2013. It's about loss, love, friendship, Irish mythology, and embracing who we are born to be.

The second book in the trilogy, TORN, released in 2014. It's much deeper and darker than TIED. It's a little creepy. It's also my favorite of the trilogy.

The third book, TRUE, will be released in 2015.

In addition, the first book in the Primordial Principles series, CRYSTALLUM, will release in the fall of 2015.

I like creating other worlds because let's face it ~ this can't be all there is. On the non-writing side of life, I'm a former classical dancer, an unabashed music snob, used-to-be-chef, and a right-brained thinker to a fault. I love tea, hate the winter, and when I'm not dreaming up new dead ends to torture myself with, I can be found running. Maybe.

Oh, and all myths and legends are true. But you know that, right?

I am published by J. Taylor Publishing and Booktrope.

Turn of the Moon Release Day Blitz 8/25

Title: Turn of the Moon

Author: L.P. Dover

Genre: Erotic Paranormal Romance Suspense

Hosted by: Lady Amber's Tours

Blurb:

One girl.

Two wolves.

Promised to one.

Destined for the other.

To escape the cruel, overbearing, Kade, the Yukon Pack alpha she’s been promised to, Bailey Whitehill flees her home in search of a new life, one of freedom where she can make her own choices. However, Kade will stop at nothing to make her his and begins the hunt.

As Bailey starts her new life, everything she’s known to be true, is not. Time is of the essence and choices have to be made or consequences suffered. Not only does Bailey fear Kade, but another danger lurks deep in the recesses of the forest. Unbeknownst to her, that danger is what she’s been searching for all along. At the turn of the moon, her fate hangs in the balance . . . and it’s up to her to make the right choice.

Excerpt :

There was a time when I lived for the pack, when I would do anything to save my people. The white wolves were slowly reducing in number, and now everyone was desperate, struggling to make ends meet before we were wiped into extinction. I was twenty-four years old, and a daughter of the Northern pack alpha. It was my duty to continue my lineage. The only problem was, there were no other unmated alphas around other than my best friend, Sebastian, and the supreme douche, Kade Whitemore.

There was no way in hell I was going to alliance myself with that rat bastard. He was alpha of the Yukon pack, violent, and an overbearing ass who’d rather see me on my back with my legs spread open than being his equal. I’d rather die than be forced to be his mate for all eternity. Why couldn’t I mate with Sebastian? Thinking of fucking him gave me the willies, but anything was better than Kade.

Anger racked my body and I sat there, seething . . . until I felt him. He was coming for me; I could sense him drawing near. The closer we got to the meadow, the more I could smell Kade and his excitement—his lust. Hopefully, he could smell the rage and disgust coming from me.

Wolves mated for life; it was a sacred union. It wasn’t like a human marriage where you could end it by signing a piece of paper. Our unions weren’t something you did lightly. It was also not a decision I was going to let my parents make for me. The only way to escape would be to kill him, and the last thing I wanted to do was start a war between packs. There had to be another way.

Up ahead, in wolf form, Kade kept his stare dialed in on me. He was large—like all alpha males tended to be—but I wasn’t impressed. He could smell my indifference and in return growled low, challenging me. I glared straight at him, not backing down, nor lowering my head. No one would ever make me submit.

REVIEW: AN ABSOLUTELY GRIPPING PARANORMAL READ!! Beyond The Eyes By Rebekkah Ford

It is rare that I would read a story more than once, back to back; but this story compelled me to do so! I've fallen in love with the characters in this book and Rebekkah Ford makes them SO endearing and relatable, it would be difficult not to love them. The main character Paige faces many challenges and decisions, but she is one "spitfire" up for what's to come. The love interest and her soul mate Nathan are incredible together and I can't wait to see what the "dark spirits" have in store for them and Paiges best friends, Tree and Carrie. Paige holds crucial information that the dark spirits want-this is definitely the beginning to what I think is going to be a fantastic series!! Anyone who enjoys a great paranormal or other worldly read should not hesitate in checking this series out!

MY REVIEW:

BOOK TRAILER & TEASERS:

BOOK TRAILER FOR SEARCHING FOR BARBIE

MEET THE AUTHOR:

Hi, I’m Tommy Crown
I was born in Texas at the height of the Viet Nam war and the hippie movement. We moved around a lot because my father was in the oil business. Mainly in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and South America.
My teen years were spent in California, where I was the poster boy for bad boys. I managed to get suspended from Beverly Hills High and wound up graduating from Hollywood High where the tolerance for bad boys was the norm.
I played drums in a band called, ‘Brand X’. I surfed. I smoked, drank, and chased women. I was pretty good at it.
The chasing women part anyway.
I did my time at Cerritos College where they handed me my first college degree. I now have a couple more. One from UNLV in marketing and another from NYU in journalism.
Next, I spent a few years in law enforcement (LAPD), before flipping to the dark side where I worked in a casino , (Caesars’ Palace) thanks to my father’s connections to the owner, the late Jay Sarno. It was there I found my niche.
I advanced over the years, became a casino boss and traveled the world opening casinos for a group of very wealthy Americans.
I opened the Royale in Port au Prince Haiti, the Flamingo in Madrid, and believe it or not, Rick’s in Casablanca.
During that time, I picked up the nickname, ‘Player’ and for some reason, it stuck.
A few years ago, I decided I wanted to be a writer. More specifically, a writer of erotica. I figured I might as well put my dirty mind to work. I’ve sold stories to Hustler, Penthouse, and Bitch magazines thru the years and their dough was good. Better than most to be honest. The perks weren’t bad, either. I’ll let you think about that.
I thought my years in law enforcement and my time spent as a player in the casino world would serve me well as a writer. It has.
I tend to write things that men can read while getting a haircut, or women under hair dryers, or factory workers on break. Don’t kid yourself though. Doctors and Lawyers read my work, too.
I currently work weekends for VIP Services, a private security firm I co-own that provides protection for entertainers and celebrities. The doughs good and the perks are incredible. Yeah, big black limo, men in dark suits and darker sunglasses moving the crowds out of the way for stars. Cool job.
You can find my free stories on BooksieSilk, Velvet9, Stories Space, literotica, watt pad and my personal blog, http://tommycrownjewels.blogspot.co.uk/?m=1
My inspiration comes from anything; a sight, a sound, a smell, a neatly turned phrase I hear on TV or radio, kids playing in a park, or simply draw something from my real life and suddenly, I have a story!

TEASER TUESDAY #IARTG

SNIPPET FROM THROUGH GLASS DARKLY

“Olivia,” Lauren said as she put down her half-eaten slice of pizza. “Listen to what you’re saying. Who do you want? What do you want?”

“I don’t know–” she answered, tears brimming in her eyes.

Lauren continued. “My grandmother and aunt always told me that I would know who I was meant to be with when I found the person that I couldn’t live without; that I couldn’t breathe without. My mom died before she got the chance to talk to me about those things, but I could always tell by the way my parents acted with each other, that they drew breath from one another. They could have never lived without the other one, which is why, I think, in the grand scheme of things, they were taken together. The way in which they were taken still haunts me, but all in all, I believe it was part of the bigger plan. It’s taken me years to come to that conclusion, and it hasn’t been an easy one to reach. I encourage you to think about that though: which of the two men, Henry or Daniel, would you be able to live without. Which one helps you breathe?”

Sarah and Sue both nodded in agreement.

“This isn’t something you have to decide right now,” Sue reassured. “I just know Danny, and he will wait for a while, but he’s like any other man. The waiting will get old. It might hurt him to walk away from you, but he will. In fact, I think he’ll probably take the job in Dayton if things don’t progress.”

Eyes wide, Olivia looked at Sue. Lauren’s head dropped also. “What job in Dayton?” she asked.

Sue’s mouth dropped open. “Oh, God, he didn’t tell you.”

“Daniel hasn’t talked about this with Olivia. He didn’t plan to,” Lauren said.

“What job in Dayton?” Olivia shouted.

A sigh from Lauren gave away her guilt. “Nick offered him a position at the FBI field office in Dayton. He would be working in Major Crimes. Nick has begged him to come for years now, but he won’t. This time he made it very clear to both me and to Nick he had no intention in leaving you. You are the reason he stays with FCSO.”

“I can’t believe he didn’t say anything. It would be so much more money for him, not to mention the benefits.”

“He loves you,” Sue said.

“I love him, too,” Olivia answered, “but I don’t know if I love him enough.”

“Who do you keep secrets from?” Sarah asked bluntly. When Olivia stared at her blankly, she continued. “Who knows about the other? Who knows all there is to know about you?”

“Danny knows all of my secrets. He knows about Henry. He knows everything. Henry knows about my life, too, but I’ve kept it from him about Danny.”

“Don’t you think that means something? You trust Danny with absolutely everything.”

Olivia looked down at the pizza on her plate, now cold. Then she looked up, confusion still in her eyes.

“Keep what I told you in mind,” Lauren reiterated. “Who are you unable to breathe without?”

Excerpt:

Tucker

I am sitting at the local bar contemplating on what I have done with my life. I am almost twenty eight years old and I feel like I haven’t done anything worthwhile. I always hated school. I made sure to get a high school diploma but college wasn’t in the cards for me. I went to a technical school and became a roofer a year later. I have been working at Southern Roofing for eight years now. I have made good money but I feel like my life is empty. My brother, Jake, and I don’t get along and it got worse after my parents passed away and he went off to college. My best friend, Shane, left home and went to Louisiana State University. He comes home to visit but it isn’t the same. Our little circle of friends seemed to have disappeared when everyone went to college and I stayed behind in the town we all grew up in. We all went our separate ways except for Jake and Belle. They both attended New York University and were both studying radiology. Don’t get me wrong. I am proud of all my friends and I want to see them succeed. Unfortunately, I can’t help but feel left behind. I don’t have a girlfriend and I have always dreamed of having a family of my own. The one girl I have always wanted is way out of my league and my best friend’s sister. Shane would kill me if I went after Kayla, I think. Honestly, I’m pretty sure Kayla would laugh in my face if I ever asked her out. Kayla is absolutely gorgeous. She has long light brown hair and the most amazing green eyes. She has an hourglass figure that will drop a man to his knees. Besides her killer looks, the enormous brain on that woman is so hot. I would give anything to have more than a friendship with her but I am afraid of rejection and that our friendship will go to hell. I am also pretty sure she has never looked at me that way anyway.
